Lipofilling is the procedure of undertaking fat grafting of fat cells by re-injecting autologous fat in the patient.
Indications can be segmented into 2 categories:
- Aesthetic indications:
- Filling and reducing certain wrinkles
- Creating a filler effect to a hollowed or aging face
- Enhancing facial features
- A complement linked to facial lifting procedures to improve facial harmony
- Reparative indications:
- Filling post-traumatic tissue creases
- Smoothing irregularities caused by bad liposuction
- Facial lipoatrophy correction after tritherapy for HIV positive patients
- Breast contouring after cancer reconstructive surgery

Procedure:
- Blood test, pre-anesthetic consultation
- Hospitalization: 1 day post-surgery
- Procedure duration: 30 minutes to 2h and 30min
- Anesthesia: general
- Pain: moderate
- Post surgery care: requires wearing compression garment for one month
- Resuming activity: 7 - 10 days
Liposuction allows to remove localized fat deposits. It is not a weight loss method nor a treatment for obesity.
Liposuction treats several body parts:
- Abdomen: A simple surgical procedure that leaves no scar, little pain, and allows fast resuming of activities coupled with laser lipolysis.
- Hips and Back: The result on the love handles is impressive and contours the waist. Laser lipolysis tightens the back’ skin where skin is thick.
- Thighs: Removing flabby thighs that do not disappear with diet or physical exercise. Association of liposuction and laser lipolysis will generate better skin tightening in case of sagging or rippling skin.
- Inner knees: Removing localized fat excess in the inner knee. It is a light procedure that can be done under local anesthesia in an ambulatory center.
- Arms: Treated by a simple liposuction, or by associating liposuction and laser lipolysis leading to better skin contouring.
- Buttocks: This procedure is interesting if the excess is concentrated on the upper and medium level, provided that it is not linked to a buttock ptosis.
- Neck: Neck liposuction can yield excellent results in case of isolated fat deposit, provided that it is not related to an important sagging skin.
Laser Lipolysis is a new technique to destroy fat cells and gain skin tightening. It does not replace liposuction but it is an alternative method to treat small fat deposits.

1) Laser Lipolysis (localized fat deposits)
Procedure:
- Hospitalization: ambulatory procedure that should be done in an outpatient clinic
- Procedure duration: 30 minutes to 2 hours according to the fat quantity and the number of zones to be treated
- Anesthesia: local
- Pain: moderate
- Post surgery care: requires wearing compressive garment for 15 days
- Resuming activity: immediately
2) Laser lipolysis associated with liposuction (important fat deposits)
Procedure:
- Blood test, pre-anesthetic consultation
- Hospitalization: 1 day post-surgery
- Procedure duration: 30 minutes to 2 hours and 30 minutes
- Anesthesia: general
- Pain: moderate
- Post surgery care: requires wearing compression garment for one month
- Resuming activity: 10 - 15 days

Results
Results will start to show within one month. The skin will need 3 to 6 months to tighten in the new curves and to adapt to the new silhouette. The results will be better assessed 6 months after the procedure.
